Getting Started

Costs

Individual Lessons

Weekly 1/2 hour lessons are $100 per month.

Group Lessons
Group lessons will be assessed & priced on a case-by-case basis.

Books & Materials

Books required for lessons are separate and can run between $20 and $50, but for most people should last for at least one semester and more likely a year or more.  I will assist you with choosing & purchasing books when you begin lessons.  You will also be asked to bring a notebook to each lesson.  This will be for me to write assignments, tips & other information.  A Hilroy spiral bound notebook is best, but whatever you have will do.  You might also wish to purchase other music as you develop, so keep that in mind.

You will need an instrument to practice on, obviously.  If you have not already got an instrument, I can give you some advice on how to remedy that situation, so feel free to ask.  Flute players who are just getting started might consider renting an instrument at Long & McQuade or Tony's.

Studio Policies on Payment, Cancellations, Refunds, etc.

Payment

Monthly lesson fees are payable by post-dated cheques which last up to and including June.  Cheques are payable to Genevieve MacRae.  E-transfers on the 1st of the month are accepted for an extra $2/month.  E-transfers not made by the 5th of the month will be subject to a $5 late fee.

Missed Lessons

Missed lessons are the financial responsibility of the parent (or student). You will be entitled to a make-up lesson for the following reasons only:

  • Family emergency
  • Snow storms
  • Lessons canceled myself, the teacher
  • Severe illness

Refunds & Cancellations

Since I am making a year long reservation in my schedule for you and your student, please accept that lesson fees are non-refundable. Only in special circumstances (storm, family emergency) will a make-up lesson be offered.

I do my best to give as much notice as possible on the rare occasion I must make a cancellation. In this case, a make-up lesson will be agreed upon.

Make-up Lesson Time

In the event that we are unable to schedule a make-up lesson time during the regular schedule, you will be entitled to a lesson during a scheduled “make-up lesson day” which will happen as often as is necessary to ensure that everyone gets the lessons they are entitled to.  It is the responsibility of the student/parent to schedule the make-up lesson.

Quitting Mid-Year

If a student chooses to quit mid-year, no refund will be given for the current month. For example: if a student quits the second week of October, no refund will be made for the remainder of the month. The student will be permitted to finish out their month, but as much notice as possible should be given so a student on the wait list can be notified.  All un-cashed post-dated cheques will be returned if a student quits.
